Welcome to the Five Acres Animal Shelter Top 5 for August 5th, 2023!  In this edition you'll read about a few special animals who need your help, a happy adoption tale, and a recap of the Golden Paw Gala. Enjoy!

After over a year in our care, our buddy Watson has finally found his forever home with an amazing family! Watson is a big boy who came into the shelter who did not have the best manners, and became especially reactive in the shelter. Our team worked daily with Watson to help him learn good leash manners, some basic obedience commands, and eventually got him to where he could play well with other dogs his size! We are so happy this family was able to see the sweet, goofball Watson is and that they are willing to give him the structure and care he needs, and all the love he deserves!

Our annual Trails for Tails race is back! Join us on Saturday, September 16th at 9:00AM for this pet-friendly and family-friendly event at Streets of St. Charles. Runners can participate in a 10K or 5K race or the 1 mile fun run. Families and pets are welcome in the races! Following the run, enjoy vendors, music, and fun for the whole family. Individual AND team registration is available!

We need your help to get Henry into a home! Henry is very thin right now. He has lost weight while with us because he is stressed in the shelter environment. Even with getting extra meals throughout the day, he is still losing weight from stress, something that happens with some shelter dogs because their inability to settle burns extra calories. Imagine what that stress is doing to poor Henry's mind 😞

Henry needs a foster home ASAP! He came to us from a rural pound in Missouri, where he was good with other dogs and with kids. He is an incredibly friendly boy, and we'd love to place him in a foster home where he could take some time to decompress before interacting with any other dogs in the home. We don't know how Henry would do with cats.

Please reach out to Aysssa, our Adoption & Foster Coordinator, with any questions about Henry: alyssa@fiveacresanimalshelter.org

You can also submit a foster survey by visiting:

And you can apply to adopt Henry if you can't resist his adorable face:

You may remember Bobber from a few weeks ago. We were sending him to an emergency clinic after suffering a urinary blockage, but we are happy to share that thanks to your support, he is all better and ready to find a home!

Bobber is not a big fan of other cats, which makes the shelter life especially stressful for him. When Bobber sees us giving treats to other cats, he comes and sits at the door of his condo and politely asks for one. If we don't comply, he will stretch a little white paw under the door. How can we resist?

Bobber is around 3.6 years old and weighs 11 pounds. H is not a big fan of other cats, which makes the shelter life especially stressful for him so we would love to find him a foster or permanent adoptive home!  If you can't resist a chipmunk in a tuxedo, come to Kitty Cottage and meet this sweet guy 💕

If you are interested in being a foster home for Bobber, you can reach out to our Foster Coordinator, Joe, at joe@fiveacresanimalshelter.org or complete a foster survey here: https://www.shelterluv.com/matchme/foster/FAAS/Cat

Or if you're interested in making Bobber a permanent part of your home, you can fill out an adoption questionnaire here: https://www.shelterluv.com/embed/animal/FAAS-A-11609

The 50th Anniversary Golden Paw Gala was a great evening honoring the past 50 years of helping animals in our community, and launching the next chapter for Five Acres. Over 250 guests attended the event and enjoyed drinks, dinner, auction and raffle, and great entertainment provided by Sir Dame. Thank you to everyone who attended, bid on items, bought raffle tickets, and donated to the cause! We are thrilled to report that together over $100,000 was raised to support the dogs and cats at Five Acres. We are so grateful!

When you make a gift to Five Acres, you are helping to give the highest level of care to animals in need and giving them the chance they deserve to find a forever home. Every single dollar helps accomplish our mission of ending pet homelessness in our community.
