Welcome to the Five Acres Animal Shelter Top 5 for June 22nd, 2023!  In this edition you'll read about a few special animals who need your help, an awesome on-going collaboration, a happy adoption tale, and how you can be a part of the Golden Paw Gala - even if you aren't attending! Enjoy!

DANNY - AND HIS SQUISHY FACE - ARE STILL LOOKING FOR A HOME

Meet Danny! He's a four-year-old Boxer mix who is very much over the shelter life, if you couldn't tell by his face. He was brought in as a stray to the City of St. Charles Animal Shelter last December, and was eventually transferred to Five Acres. Danny is a fun-loving guy who gives the best big wet kisses and is a total teddy bear. He is a big, strong boy so he would do best in a home with out any really small children, but does great with older kids who are ready for a buddy to play with! Danny would do best as the only animal in the home, but at nearly 75 pounds he's all you will need.

If you're interested in fostering Danny and have questions, please reach out to Emma, our Canine Manager, at emma@fiveacresanimalshelter.org.

You can also submit a foster survey here. If you'd like to adopt Danny, please submit an adoption survey here.

TEAMWORK MAKES THE DREAM WORK!

It's been a wonderful week of collaboration with the City of St. Charles Animal Shelter!

We are continuing to trade food back and forth - they have donated several pounds of food for our AniMeals Food Pantry (much needed!), and we have sent limited ingredient food their way to help with some of their animals on special diets. On Wednesday, we took in three dogs, and Friday we welcomed seven cats! Since 2 of the 3 dogs have already been adopted, we welcomed in two additional dogs over the weekend!

We are proud to be able to help both community members and partner shelters/rescues, and couldn't do it without you. Every time a dog or cat leaves our shelter for a foster or adoptive home, the free space can be filled with another animal from one of our partners or an owner surrender. Collaboration is how we can save more lives in our community!

APPLESAUCE NEEDS YOUR HELP GETTING HER SMILE BACK

Applesauce is a happy-go-lucky terrier mix who has been in Five Acres Animal Shelter's care for over a year. Thankfully, she has been able to spend most of that time in a foster home, where her foster family describes her as "energetic, playful, and snuggly" and said her favorite thing about her is her friendly personality--she gives great kisses and also enjoys an early bedtime".

We recently learned that Applesauce has a cracked canine tooth that will need to be extracted. Because this is one of the biggest teeth, and since Applesauce has a heart murmur that will need to be monitored during her surgery, she will be seeing a veterinary specialist for this procedure. In total, it will cost $2,300. We are hoping you will consider a donation in any amount to Shadow's Fund to help offset costs of Applesauce's medical care, and to ensure there are plenty of funds left to help the next animal in need!

HAPPY TAILS, TROMBONE!

Trombone, now called Moses, was brought to the shelter after he was found with several other cats abandoned in a home. The previous owner had been evicted, and the house had been fumigated twice before the cats were ever discovered. Understandably so, Trombone was slow to come out of his shell at the shelter and took a while to warm up to his new surroundings.

Because of his rough start to life and shyness at the shelter, we had many conversations with his adopters about how long it would take for Trombone to even come out of hiding and feel at home. Much to our surprise, Trombone was out and about with his new feline friends in just a few days! We are so thankful to his foster and adopter for giving him the brighter future he deserves. Happy tails, Trombone!

THE GOLDEN PAW GALA AUCTION & RAFFLE ARE LIVE NOW!

We are so excited to be celebrating our 50th anniversary with the Golden Paw Gala next Saturday, but you do not need to be attending the event to bid on and win silent auction items and raffles! Anyone may bid and win items, and items can be picked up in the two weeks following the event from Five Acres Animal Shelter at an arranged time.

We have several great items available, including a "Bourbon & Bubbly" raffle featuring a bottle of 2010 Dom Perignon Brut Champagne, and a bottle of Blanton's Single Barrel Bourbon Whiskey.

When you make a gift to Five Acres, you are helping to give the highest level of care to animals in need and giving them the chance they deserve to find a forever home. Every single dollar helps accomplish our mission of ending pet homelessness in our community.
