Welcome to the Five Acres Animal Shelter Top 5 for April 29th, 2023! In this edition, you'll read about an exciting matching gift announcement, how you can participate in the Putts for Paws Golf Tournament without picking up a golf club, and a few animals who could use some extra help. Enjoy!

Spring is here, and so is a busy season of kittens and puppies in need of our help.

At Five Acres Animal Shelter, we are already caring for several nursing moms and their litters - ensuring they have the veterinary care, warmth, and love they need to grow up healthy and happy.

And, we are thrilled to announce that a generous donor has pledged to match $5,000 in donations through May 31st to help us care for these most vulnerable pets.

When we got a call about a yellow lab named Bailey, we knew we had to help. Her family was living in a vehicle that was totaled during a flash flood. Bailey had just even birth to a litter of 10 puppies, and they had nowhere safe to go.

Five Acres immediately agreed to welcome Bailey into our care. One of our amazing foster homes stepped up to take Bailey and all 10 puppies. They are growing up strong, and soon will be ready for adoptive families of their own.

Taki the gray cat arrived to us when her owner was moving and could not take her with them. As soon as we saw Taki we knew she was very close to giving birth. We quickly sent her to a trained foster home where she gave birth to seven of the cutest gray kittens. All of them are a spitting image of their mom!

This feline family has everything they need to survive, and thrive, thanks to supporters like you.

We are gearing up for the most crucial time of year. As you can imagine, vaccines, spay/neuter surgeries, medical treatments, and food can really add up when we are caring for multiple pet families like Bailey's and Taki's.

Please don't miss this opportunity to have your donation matched today. With your support, we can ensure homeless pets like these have the new beginnings they deserve

All you need to do is make your donation online by clicking below. Gifts received by May 31st will be matched up to $5,000.

The Fourth Annual Putts for Paws Golf Tournament may not be until Monday, but the online auction and raffle are live now! These are both great ways to support the cats and dogs at Five Acres Animal Shelter, while winning something fun!

There are several great items available in the auction, in addition to the lottery ticket raffle and the “Bourbon Lover” raffle with ten different bourbons including Eagle Rare, Woodford Reserve, and Knob Creek. Anyone can bid on and win items--you do not need to be participating in the golf tournament. Items can be picked up from the shelter on an arranged date two weeks after the event.

Our FeLV+ (feline leukemia virus) rooms at Kitty Cottage are currently full, we have some FeLV+ cats coming back from foster for a short period, and we have a waiting list of people needing to surrender their FeLV+ cats to us. We need your help!

The four cats pictured here--Reuben, Mr. Chub Chub, Derg, and Cleocatra--are all FeLV+ and would love a break from the shelter. FeLV+ cats should not live with cats who do not have the virus but they can live with other FeLV+ cats. They can also live with dogs since the virus is not transmitted across species.

We provide everything you need for fostering! Food, litterboxes and litter, toys, beds, and all vetting! You provide a home filled with love and comfort. If you have a spare room for one of our FeLV+ cats, that would be wonderful!

If you are interested in learning more about fostering one of our FeLV+ cats, please reach out to Liz, our Feline Manager: liz@fiveacresanimalshelter.org, or complete a foster survey below!

Tomorrow on Sunday, April 30th Five Acres Animal Shelter will be out and about! Teams of volunteers and Five Acres dogs will be attending these two fabulous community events to highlight some of our adoptable animals and spread the word about our mission.

At Circle 7 Ranch in Ballwin, $1.00 will be donated for every Urban Chestnut Brewing Company "Urban Underdog" beer purchased between 11:00 - 1:00.

Chandler Hill Vineyard is hosting its annual Wine & Wags event to promote shelter pet adoption and other pet-friendly businesses.

We are so grateful to be a part of such a wonderful pet-loving community, and we would love to see you at either of these events!

Hello there! Pookie, here.  I am a big goofy boy who LOVES to carry my stuffie toys everywhere I go, sometimes even outside on walks. I am still pretty young, essentially an overgrown puppy, so my friends at the shelter have been helping me learn basic doggie manners - and I am picking up on it rather quickly if I do say so myself! Running around with the shelter staff and playing tug with my rope toy is my favorite way to pass the time.

I was found as a stray and the shelter team doesn't know too much about my past, but they've noticed I'm pretty unsure about other animals so a home where I can be your one-and-only would be best for me.

If I sound like a good fit for your home click below to complete an adoption questionnaire so the shelter team can set up a meet and greet for us!

When you make a gift to Five Acres, you are helping to give the highest level of care to animals in need and giving them the chance they deserve to find a forever home. Every single dollar helps accomplish our mission of ending pet homelessness in our community.
